About Las Danzas Del Peru
Who are we?
Over eight years ago a group of young men and women, who had as a goal to spread the Peruvian folklore, created a folk dancing group called Perú: Un sólo pueblo. Amongst them was the professor Fredy Chiara, who subsequently founded along with Mrs. Rossi Linhart the cultural project Las Danzas del Perú in the diverse city of Los Angeles, California. The latter had the purpose of spreading and teach others to value the Peruvian art and folklore in the United States. It was in this manner that through the music and dance of the cast directed by Chiara have strived to reach their mission.
Our director
Fredy Chiara was born on January 26, 1973. His parents were from the Andean state of Ayacucho. Since a very early age, Chiara identified with the beautiful and colorful folk dances of his country; thus, when he was four years old, he learned a folk dance passed on by his great grandparents called La danza de las tijeras (The Dance of the Scissors). In 1979, when he was bearly 6 years old, he was invited by the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (National Institute of Culture) to represent Peru in the city of San Jose, California.
Chiara is a professor graduated from the first national college of folklore called Jose Maria Arguedas with the specialty of Peruvian art and folklore. In addition, Chiara participated in several conferences of folklore such as the VIII Congreso Nacional de Folclore (VIII National Conference of Folklore) in the city of Huancayo (Junin) and the IX Congreso Internacional de Folclore (IX International Conference of Folklore) in the city of Puquio (Ayacucho).
Furthermore, Chiara was part of the group Los hermanos Chiara for more than 15 years as a folk dancer of the scissors. For over 4 years he also was part of the cast of folk dances for ENSFJMA and Tradiciones de Huamanga. Chiara directed several folk groups at the Folk Center of Puno, and subsequently migrating to the United States in 1997 creating the folk dance group Perú: Un sólo pueblo and the cultural project Las danzas del Perú.
Our Mission
Our most important priority is to spread, preserve, and teach others to value the cultural and folk wealth of our country seeking to unify our Peruvian and American identities for the generations to come. We wish to give our cultural share to this great nation in which we live and that has opened its doors to many like us; thus, we hope to create in the near future the first dance workshop for children and to organize exhibitions, seminars and conferences about the Peruvian folklore.
